At Avior Group, we believe that skill development through training is an important ingredient in a successful business transformation.  It is a fundamental building block to reformulate how people work and think.  How and when training is done can greatly impact the return on an investment in training and there we can help you layer that element into your journey; at the right time when both opportunities and support are present.

We believe our training is different in many ways.  First, we follow the adult learning model where training is a highly participative, collaborative and hands-on experience.  Concepts are taught and immediately applied; preferably to actual projects in-class.  Secondly, our facilitators are highly experienced individuals with deep experience across several industries and can utilize relevant examples to illustrate the methodology and therefore help the participants “connect the dots”.  Thirdly, we stress the importance of critical thought connected to a roadmap as opposed to islands of disparate tools.  Although everyone loves a cookbook, we firmly believe that the process improvement professional of tomorrow must possess the ability to apply the methodology quickly and efficiently – that requires a deeper understanding what tools answer what questions.  Lastly, we firmly believe in the power of innovation whether it’s leveraged for problem solving or new design.  Innovation tools are integrated into the various levels of training below hence the prefix, iPlus.

Avior Group offers training and certification for all levels of a process improvement initiative as shown below.
It is important to note that these classes can be taught internally (and therefore enable possible customization
for your business) or also offered in an open forum where participants from multiple companies attend.

Changing an organizations culture can’t be done by selecting a few key individuals and imparting
upon them deep knowledge in the operational excellence tools.  Change on a broad scale must also systematically touch many more people so the organization can realize rapid results (like the exponential spread of a disease!).  Avior Group has designed a unique offering that is targeted at jump-starting change – right at the point where change has to happen, at the individual level.

“The impact of Avior's training allowed me personally to have the
lowest project cycle times, largest total savings, and subsequently
reaching the position of Director of Performance Excellence in
less than a four year period.”

— MBB and Director of Performance Excellence, Automotive Industry

Typically done on-site as part of a deployment, iPlus Yellow Belt training is intended to jump start
change; creating excitement and momentum for the initiative.

Prior to the class, the participant should complete the following:

  • Developing a problem statement and assemble current baseline performance data
  • Selecting a team of resources to attend who can aid in the specific project opportunity
  • Identify the target objective

What makes the iPlus Yellow Belt program different than the other offerings?

  • Exposure to some basic innovation tools so that teams solutions can get closer to the
    truly elegant solution
  • This training is focused around project application - teams are required to work a project
    together during the training.
  • We strongly suggest Yellow Belt teams periodically report out their progress until they complete
the control phase and realize measurable benefits.  Once they complete the control phase
they are certified as a team and expected to achieve a savings target annually in order to
    maintain their yellow belt status.
  • Yellow Belt training is typically initiated after the black belts have been trained and project
success demonstrated. Then the Black Belts or Green Belts can aid the Yellow Belts as questions
come up with respect to tool application and measuring shift changes in performance.

The Investment:

  • ~ 3 days of peoples time
  • On-site service, part of deployment process and timing based on deployment maturity

The Return:

  • Helps organization realize some immediate benefits and develop skills to reduce project cycle time.
  • Team dynamics, increase in problem solving skills, business acumen and accountability.

Focus on managers and their issues initially will aid you in accelerating the cultural adaptation and measurable impact of Lean Six Sigma.

Course Dates: TBD

Green Belts are resources who are typically on the leadership development path, are self-motivated, and desire to enhance their skills and lead others to solve difficult business problems for the last time. Attending and certifying as an Avior iPlus Green Belt is a great precursor to an additional investment
as a Black Belt.  (which would involve attending weeks 3 and 4 of iPlus Black Belt Training)

“Avior allowed me to build on my previous knowledge and to
learn the tools and methodologies at a much deeper level.
The mentoring... has been vital in my education.”

— MBB, Plastics Company

Green Belts are usually part-time resources and typically work smaller scoped department focused projects. Green Belts are expected to lead or facilitate these projects and are assisted by Black Belts
or Master Black Belts when needed or exposed to challenging cultural or technical issues.

Certification requirements include completion of one project with validated savings, a completed organizational impact assessment, and a passing grade on the GB competency exam.

What makes the iPlus Green Belt program different than the other offerings?

  • A program that is centered changing the way people think about and approach problems; teaching the power of looking through the process lens and the data lens when solving a problem.
  • A highly hands-on program with an emphasis on the practical tools in a problem solving framework that are both easy to use and solve a large percentage of the business problems they’ll face.
  • Exposure to innovation tools that will help teams think out of the box so elegant solutions
    to problems are not overlooked.
  • 10 hours of remote telephone support with to assist you through your Green Belt journey
  • A flexible program that gives your green belts the opportunity to continue increasing their skills
by attending weeks 3 and 4 of the Black Belt training upon completion of Green Belt training.
  • As future leaders in an organization, candidates will learn how to effectively manage, support
and motivate their teams and management to achieve desired goals.

The Investment:

  • $4,995 per participant
  • Travel and Expenses to PHX for the participant
  • Candidates will be away from your site for 2 weeks, one week per month - learning invaluable
skills to benefit the individual and the business.

The Return:

  • A transformed individual – They will approach every problem differently and begin to ask better questions leading to the root cause of problems quicker.
An individual that can provide $20,000-$50,000 of bottom line savings per project, support the
change agent cultural development process and have the basic knowledge of how to use the
tools to solve problems and measure the benefits.  Actual savings will be dependent on project
focus within your organization.

Course Dates: TBD

When it comes to the real horsepower that creates broad change across an organization, Black Belts
are the “domestiques” (a cycling analogy) or the “worker bees" (a nature analogy) of the process improvement world.  In other words, they are the layer in the process improvement infrastructure
that drives process changes that produce rapid improvement and subsequently bottom line savings….you need these people…really…

“The training and ongoing mentoring our organization received from Avior enabled our company to reach a new level of efficiency resulting
in eclipsing our savings goals by millions of dollars.”

— MBB, Automotive Industry

Avior Group’s iPlus Black Belt program is designed to take those high potential candidates that have demonstrated that “get ‘er done” attitude and equip them with the skills and knowledge to take key
business processes to a higher level of performance.

Certification requirements (comparable to the best programs available) include two completed projects
with a bottom-line financial impact greater than the cost of the resources required to support the project,
a completed organizational impact assessment, and a passing grade on the BB competency exam.

What makes the iPlus Black Belt program different than the other offerings?

  • A program that is designed to teach more than just statistics, but practical, problem solving
skills necessary for tough business problems…Provided by an organization with a commitment
and passion for Lean Six Sigma.
  • A program infused with innovation tools to enable Black Belts to not only reduce variation in processes, but leverage teams ability to think out of the box – to create elegant solutions once the root causes are determined.
  • A highly hands-on learning experience with exercises designed to create those “ah-ha” moments
    – it will not be “death by PowerPoint”…promise….
  • 40 hours of remote telephone support with to assist you through your Black Belt journey
  • A flexible program that gives your green belts the option of picking up where they left off
(reducing the cost and duration of the training) or opting to take all 4 weeks of the training.
  • A program designed using DFSS – We’ve taken the time to understand the voice of the customer (you) and designed a program to satisfy those needs at a high level of capability.

The Investment:

  • $9, 950 per participant for the 4 week program;  A premium program at a lower price than competitors offerings.
  • If already an Avior iPlus Green Belt or Green Belt certified*, $4,950 for the additional 2 weeks
(attend week 3 & 4 of the iPlus Black Belt Training)
  • Travel and Expenses to PHX for the participant
  • Your high potential candidate will be away from your site for 4 weeks, approximately one
week per month  -  learning invaluable skills to benefit the individual and the business

* Review of Green Belt certification and project applications requested prior to acceptance
if other than Avior iPlus trained

The Return:

  • A full-time Black Belt resource typically can provide $500,000-$800,000 of annualized bottom line savings, and support top line improvement efforts with skills in innovation. Actual savings will be dependent on project focus within your organization.
  • A training experience that will be career changing for the participant…the value of learning in a mixed company environment is invaluable.  You will not only gain significant knowledge, but will gain multi-industry perspective, contacts, and friendships that will benefit you for your entire career.

Business goals today are not much unlike that of years ago. In general, improved speed and performance that comes from the execution of a sound strategic and tactical plan. Operational Excellence programs have been the mechanism many businesses have used to execute on these plans as well as transform the underlying antecedent-behavior-consequence structure of organizations (the culture).  Master Black Belts have been a key part of these Operational Excellence programs by working with leadership to find project opportunities, facilitate rapid improvements, lead key high impact projects, and  train/coach belts through execution upon those projects.

"...the training and Master Black Belt experience offered by Avior Group has made me a better leader and will be of great value in both my professional and personal life and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to pursue their Master Black Belt certification."

— MBB and Director of Lean Six Sigma, Healthcare Organization

At the same time Operational Excellence programs have evolved to meet the shorter term needs of businesses, Master Black Belts were being called upon to do tasks in addition to traditional training and mentoring. Tasks like strategy and vision development, innovation, process design/re-design, deployment support, and quick value stream transformations were becoming skills required of MBB’s.

Avior Group has responded to that need by creating a Master Black Belt Certification program that develops the traditional skills of teaching and mentoring but also develops these relevant skills in innovation, process design/redesign, deployment support, and value stream assessment/transformations. This 4-week program has been designed using the collective experience of seasoned MBB consultants to take your best, high potential Black Belts, and develop them with the skills needed to assist with the most difficult of business transformations.

Certification as an Avior Group iPlus MBB is a difficult; just ask the individuals that have been through the process.  But as the saying goes,”no pain, no gain”.  However, we firmly believe that EVERYONE has
to “get it” – It’s our commitment to make you successful…

It is a rewarding experience that involves meeting several rigorous requirements: 100% class attendance/participation, homework completion, >85% exam score, completion of a collection of MBB activities that is tailored to meet the business needs, and completion of an organizational impact
assessment by Senior Leadership at the sponsoring company.

Some things we feel are cool about the program we’ve developed…

  • Relevant and practical content that works in today’s challenging business environment
  • A highly pragmatic approach (stats are nice, but let’s solve the problem NOW with enough stats to make a sound business decision)
  • Expanded Innovation content; Leveraging innovation tools as both a tactical problem solving weapon, a strategy generation tool, and a key element of the design process.
  • Experiential based learning in advanced topics of Six Sigma, Lean, DFSS, and Innovation methodologies as well as techniques for application that accelerate results
  • Statistically rich curriculum that focuses on developing situational fluency; applying the right statistics at the right time to answer the key questions.
  • MBB’s roles in deployments; how to position yourself and your deployment not only as a mentor and trainer of belts, but as a key resource leadership depends on to assist in moving the business forward.
  • Taught by Ray Hemmele, Partner at Avior Group and former Consultant, MBB trainer and program designer at the company that founded the Lean Six Sigma methodology.
  • 20 hours of remote telephone support with to assist you through your journey

The Investment:

  • $11,995 per participant; Over $7k less than the company that founded the Lean Six Sigma methodology (but taught by the same MBB that developed and taught that $19,000 program)
  • Travel and Expenses to PHX for the participant
  • A lot of effort from the participant (blood, sweat, and maybe a tear or two)
  • An organization that is ready for change

The Return:

  • An individual that can provide from $750,000 to over $1,000,000 in annualized bottom line savings, enable significant top line improvement via innovation and design, facilitate organizational transformation.
  • A training experience that will be career changing for the participant…the value of learning in a mixed company environment is invaluable.  You will not only gain significant knowledge, but will gain
multi-industry perspective, contacts, and friendships that will benefit you for your entire career.

Course Dates: TBD

Reducing variation and eliminating waste in existing processes and products will keep Belts busy for years to come. Unfortunately, the problems they are solving are more often than not, a result of inadequacies in the design process.  During the design process is where key decisions are made often not understanding the far reaching impact of them on what is most important to the various customer groups (External & Internal).  Additionally, customer needs and wants are typically not fully understood and flowed down into the design.  The result is a product, process or service that does not “excite” the customer and subsequently can lead to loss of revenue, and eventually market share…

“The design/engineering team here at Cadence will approach product
development differently moving forward as a result of the DFSS
training provided by Avior Group. Our team will be utilizing the tools introduced by Avior to ensure our new products & designs will meet & exceed all customer (both internal & external) requirements in the
early build phases. We found the training to be interactive,
comprehensive, & most importantly...effective.”

  —  Steve Mitchell, Cadence Innovation, LLC | Manager - Chrysler Product Engineering

Avior Group has designed a program that is not just for engineers or product designers; because everyone is an engineer at some point!  Some of the poorest, most defect ridden processes were haphazardly put together because the individuals involved didn’t realize they were designing!  Avior Groups one week DFSS program is targeted towards people that have been through at least Green Belt Training and have the need to design or redesign processes, products and services.

What makes Avior Group’s Design for Six Sigma program different than the other offerings?

  • A highly interactive training experience where you will immediately apply what you’ve learned by designing a process of your choice.
  • A program that is heavily weighted on customer wants and needs capture and analysis – where the game is really won or lost.
  • A very practical DFSS curriculum that brings the power of design to all belts, not just those  highly technical people with an engineering background.
  • Excel based tools are utilized throughout the class that are fully functional for real design problems – no need to buy fancy software.
  • 10 hours of remote telephone support with to assist you with application of the methodology

The Investment:

  • $2,450 per participant for the one week program
  • Travel and Expenses to PHX for the participant
  • Your employee will be away from your site for one week yet gain highly valuable knowledge and experience how to design…the right way such that the customer is delighted!

The Return:

  • Obviously highly dependent on project selection but can easily exceed $1 million in cost savings (bottom line) and significant revenue growth (top line).
A training experience that will be career changing for the participant…the value of learning in a mixed company environment is invaluable.  You will not only gain significant knowledge, but will gain multi-industry perspective, contacts, and friendships that will benefit you for your entire career.

Course Dates: TBD

In typical deployments, the organizational structure that people are placed in (MBB, BB, GB, etc) typicall dictates what kind of training they receive and subsequently what tools/techniques they use.  However, we have found that there is really no need to couple certain trainings with an organizational position.
In other words, if Black Belts need additional higher level tools to be successful, they should have
access to them.

“Avior allowed me to build on my previous knowledge and to
learn the tools and methodologies at a much deeper level.
The mentoring... has been vital in my education.”

— MBB, Plastics Company

In order to respond to that need, Avior Group created the Advanced Technical Training Class which provides Black Belts with the technical knowledge and skills that are typically provided at the MBB level.
The offering is structured as a one week course that focuses on providing a deep understanding of the following topics:

  • Multiple Linear Regression
  • Regression with Attribute Variables
  • Binary Logistic Regression
  • Time Series Analysis
  • Capability analysis, Normal and Non-Normal
  • Variance Stabilizing Transforms
  • Full and Fractional Design of Experiments
  • ANOVA General Linear Model
  • Fully Nested ANOVA (Components of Variation Analysis)

The Investment:

  • $2,450 per participant for the one week program
  • Travel and Expenses to PHX for the participant
  • Your employee will be away from your site for one week yet gain highly valuable knowledge and experience how to analyze and solve tough problems

The Return:

Obviously highly dependent on project selection but these people can also provide that extra analytical horsepower to tough problems.
